Texas persimmon (Diospyros texana)
Texas persimmon is a large shrub or small tree that is quite drought tolerant and needs excellent drainage. It has attractive exfoliating gray bark with small leathery leaves, fragrant flowers and edible fruit (when ripened to softness). Texas persimmon is a slow growing. Can grow in rocky soil areas. Fruit is eaten by wildlife.
