Texas rock rose is an extremely drought tolerant Texas native. This shrub-like perennial has loose, open growth habit. It features pink flowers that open in the morning and close in the afternoon. Flowers appear in early summer and last until fall. Its naturally open-branching form may be kept more compact by frequent pruning, which promotes new growth and more flowers. To keep prevent legginess it can be trimmed back throughout the growing season and can be cut back hard in early spring. It is an excellent choice for North Texas gardens since it is able to survive the summer heat and adds color to the landscape.
